Orange & Red Poppies

Oil on panel Framed 54 x 44 cm 21 x 17 inches

PAO

Which paint tubes have we here?  Well - one is called ‘Brilliant Pink’ and the other ‘Napthol Red’ . . . . . reds can be very tricky. We need vibrant, magestic colours for the poppies and glowing shadows.  Alizarin Crimson comes ‘on stage’ for the darks. The bricks that make up the table top have many different gorgeous colours.  They are salt glazed and reflect bluey greys, ruddy bronzes, silver and almost black - and terracotta.  A veritable rainbow in themselves.

Such is the joy and challenge of making all these beautiful paints form something that looks recognisably real and is one I relish.  This painting, in the flesh, is a bit of a stunner!
