Japanese Anemone - small

Oil on gesso primed heavy watercolour paper 38 x 24cm 15 x 9.5inches

£475

Gorgeous new frame - the same as Californian Poppies - with True (invisible) glass, and a small white fillet to give depth. It is a pricey but I could tell, it was essential.

At the very end of summer there are still surprises in the garden and Japanese Anemones are some of the most delightful. With the sense that autumn is just around the corner, the curtains being drawn earlier, a return to many indoor activities, a slowing down, these flowers emerge - pristine.

Pink isn’t a colour I use often but I wanted to understand it in paint.  And here is the exploration in the form of a little study that can serve as a wealth of guidance for a larger work and yet stands on its own, delivering a delicate charm in absorbing detail.

Like many studies, it looks lovely hung on its own or as part of a collection.
