Summer 2019 was hot. Outside everything seemed dry and baked and in my mind came the colours I wanted to see, like a cool bath.  Deep, magenta pink and eau de nil green – the colours of the crumpled paper and the candlestick.

Hanging around the neck of an antique lemonade bottle is a string of garlic, bringing to mind dried fields of grass and hay.  The glass bottle conjures up water with its rippled surface.  The words moulded into the surface say SCRUBB’S on one side and FLUID on the other.  I found the rest of the description to be Scrubb’s fluid ammonia poison.  I had just liked the glass with its bubbles and their mica quality!

Another painting was leaning against the back wall, only just visible and giving the feeling of something leading out of the picture and balancing the composition.
