What began as a study for a new series of paintings became a drawing in its own right. This is very often how things go.
The sculptural twists and turns of the dried leaves become an essential part of the drawing and everything else follows - the new chunky tube of paint, the curved reflective surface of the turps can and moulded letting on the antique bottle.
